Seachem de*Nitrate Filter Media

Seachem's de*nitrate™ is an advanced filter media designed to effectively remove nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, and organic compounds from both freshwater and marine aquariums. Its highly porous structure fosters the growth of beneficial aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, which play a crucial role in breaking down these harmful substances, ensuring a healthier aquatic environment.

Even after de*nitrate™ has been fully utilized as an organic adsorbent, it continues to serve as an excellent biological filter support and does not require removal from the filtration system. For optimal performance, place de*nitrate™ where water flow is assured, such as within canister filters, chemical filtration modules, or box filters. To maintain efficiency, keep the flow rate at or below 200 liters (50 gallons) per hour. In situations where higher flow rates are necessary, consider using alternative media like Matrix™ or Pond Matrix™.

Before use, it is recommended to rinse off any dust. Within a few days of operation, nitrate levels should begin to decrease, stabilizing around 4–5 mg/L. This indicates effective nitrate control, and as long as these levels remain steady, the media is not exhausted. Each 500 mL of de*nitrate™ can treat approximately 100–200 liters (25–50 gallons) of water, depending on the initial nitrate concentration and biological load. To maintain water quality, use enough media to remove nitrates at a rate equal to or faster than their formation. If nitrate concentrations are initially very high, reduce them to below 20 mg/L through water changes before relying solely on the media.
